Clinical study on feto-maternal outcome in teenage pregnancy in a tertiary care institute

Background: Pregnancies that occur below the age of 20 years are called teenage pregnancies. Teenage pregnancy is a common public health problem worldwide which detrimental to both mother and new-born. This study aims evaluate obstetric perinatal outcomes in Indian rural semi urban population. Methods: A retrospective observational was undertaken department obstetrics gynecology, Mysore Medical College Research Institute, Mysore, for period one year from August 2021 September 2022. All mothers during were included study. Data analysed various maternal parameters, fetal outcome pregnancy. Results: Study showed incidence 12.6%. About 88.3% primgravida, 74% booked cases. 51.6% had varying grades anaemia, 29.09% spectra hypertensive disorders if pregnancy, 27.92% PROM. Caesarean section rates 25%, Fetal distress being most indication 47.3% followed by fail induction 29.8%. Preterm delivery as high 13.6%. Postpartum complications postpartum hemorrhage 2.5%, puerperal pyexia 1.9%, eclampsia 1.38%. Respiratory seen 17.6% neonates, prematurity 15.49%, IUGR 13.6%, 2.99% stillborn send 3.36% succumbed due pre-maturity, respiratory distress, sepsis. Conclusions: From present we infer prevalence still population they suffered significant number including anemia pre-eclampsia preterm labour, neonatal early onset To surmount these problems multidisciplinary team involving social workers, obstetrician gynaecologist required improve adolescent reproductive health.
